Alice Dodd

In her Arts degree, Alice Dodd majored in English Literature and Theory, and in Screen Studies. She has taught General English to international students and to migrants in Australia, as well as information skills at undergraduate level. As a Gateways online librarian, Alice has also been committed to helping students gain the communication and research skills necessary for successful study at university level in Australia and in other English-speaking countries.
For Alice, the professional rewards in designing and teaching study programs is to see students becoming self-sufficient in their approaches to learning. Alice believes that when people can independently find the information they need, and can confidently express their views in their own words, they are able to flourish in both their vocational and their daily lives.
Ninette Ellis

Ninette Ellis's professional career as a librarian at universities in Australia spans more than twenty years. She has also lectured in librarianship at graduate level and taught academic skills to international postgraduates at an Australian university. In her various positions, Ninette's interest has always been to facilitate the learning process for students and academics. Ninette speaks Dutch, German and French.
Rosemary Greentree

Rosemary Greentree's studies focussed on English (mediaeval and modern), language, and culture. She has taught study skills, literacy, communication and personal effectiveness programs at schools and colleges. Her students have included migrants to Australia, young people retraining for employment, and women returning to the workforce. Rosemary has written and edited several books on mediaeval topics. She enjoys travelling overseas, particularly when there are opportunities for study.
Helene Hipp

Helene Hipp has worked in the student support area in a number of universities throughout Australia for the last fifteen years. During that time she worked with both indigenous and non-indigenous Australians, as well as assisting international students with their studies. She has a special interest in supporting university students who are studying at a distance. As well as preparing students for academic success, Helene has helped them adjust to the many cross-cultural differences which they encounter in their student lives.
Helene teaches communication and counselling to natural health therapists, and she speaks German fluently. She has travelled extensively in Europe and Asia, and she particularly enjoys learning about the many different cultures of the world and experiencing the diversity of experiences they can offer world-travellers.
Margret Keath

Margret Keath helped to set up learning programs and provided academic and counselling support for students at university level. After travelling overseas, Margret worked with international adult students arriving in Australia. She began her passion for the teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL) while working with immigrant secondary school students in Melbourne, Victoria.
Margret's interest in the culture and history of her own country led her to work with people from several indigenous nations in South Australia. She has spent many years assisting aboriginal students in tertiary education, many of whom wished to access higher education from their home communities. Margret subsequently helped to develop ways for those communities to study effectively at university and other tertiary institutions over distance and across cultures.
Margret’s role with English Gateways has included providing student support services, and she is excited by the opportunities for distance education which internet technology offers.
Cynthia Mchawala

In her Masters degree, Cynthia Mchawala researched economic, political and social issues in developing countries. Cynthia has been teaching English to second and foreign language teachers and learners in universities, colleges and schools for over twenty years. She has lived and worked in Tanzania, East Africa, for thirteen years, and is fascinated by the cultural influences of language. As a consequence, Cynthia is particularly interested in her students' inter-cultural experiences and insights.
Donna Millen

Donna Millen has over twenty years experience as a teacher of English and French at high school, college and university levels. She has taught students in Europe, Latin America, Canada and Australia, and has travelled extensively in Asia. Her areas of special interest are English for academic purposes, logic and clear-thinking, and English for health professionals.
Kristin Munday

Kristin Munday’s professional career includes lecturing at an Australian university in bridging programs for postgraduate and undergraduate students. She also designs and teaches specialised individual programs for postgraduate students with language difficulties. Kristin teaches logic and clear thinking to international students in a foundation course for university study. She has been an inter-country adoption social worker, and has worked with indigenous Australians. Kristin has travelled extensively in Australia and overseas. Her research interests include the relationship between language and culture, and writing for specific purposes. She is also interested in developing practical critical thinking courses which will enable students to apply the skills they have learnt to their academic studies.
Helene Rothschild

Helene Rothschild was born and educated in the United States of America. In both her Bachelor and Masters Science degrees she majored in the fields of health and physical education. Helene was a licensed US high school teacher for six years. After completing her Master of Arts Degree, she became a licensed marriage/family therapist in 1981.
The author of the online self-help program, Personal Success Now, Helene has been a marriage/family therapist for over 24 years, as well as a speaker, teacher, and author. She has shared her unique ideas about how to develop and maintain strategies for successful living through many American television programs (including CNN International), and as a guest on national radio across the United States.
Helene Rothschild has hosted her own local radio and television shows, lectured extensively, and facilitated many empowering workshops and seminars. Close to a million of her inspirational, self-help books, booklets, tapes, posters, and cards have been sold worldwide.
Richard Warner

Richard Warner has a Master's degree in applied linguistics and has taught ESL/EAP in Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, The United Kingdom and Australia. After migrating to Australia in 1992, Richard worked for several years developing academic bridging programs for international students in diploma courses. Richard has taught communication skills courses for international undergraduates in engineering and information technology. He has also taught international postgraduate students. Richard's experiences with international students have led to his research interests in socio-cultural aspects of study, particularly with regard to the culture-specific concept of academic referencing.
